About Aspen FSP and the Scam Prevention Initiative
Strategic coordination between the government and companies across industries is the only way to effectively reduce the national security threat posed by fraud and scams.
The Scam Prevention Initiative is an effort by the Aspen Institute Financial Security Program to drive systems-level change in how the country confronts fraud and scams.
By convening senior leaders from across influential industries—including financial services, technology platforms, retailers, and consumer advocates—the Initiative advances practical solutions, develops prevention tools, improves measurement, and drives the coordination needed to reduce scam activity.
The Initiative represents the next phase of the Financial Security Program's work, building on the National Task Force for Fraud and Scam Prevention and the 2025 national strategy to stop fraud and scams. The strategy called for a whole-of-ecosystem approach grounded in bold federal leadership, public-private collaboration, enhanced law enforcement capabilities, and modernized legal frameworks.
With the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) estimating almost $200 billion in losses to online scams in 2025, fraud and scams have become a national security and financial crisis affecting millions of Americans every day, making this coordinated action more urgent than ever.
